Illam is one of the important town in Mechi zone and one of the major place in Nepal for tea production. It has a beautiful natural scenery and landscape, tea production and diverse agricultural economy.

The town hile lies north of regional center Dhankuta. Everest). It is a starting point for trekkers making trips to Kanchenjunga and Makalu.
Kakani is one of the hill stations around Kathmandu valley which is 2000 meters above the valley. One can enjoy the collection of the magnificent peaks of central Nepal stretching from Ganesh Himal, Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain range. Jiri lies at an altitude of 1,905 meters from the sea level and the eastern part of Nepal. A trek to Lukla starts from Jiri which lasts for seven to eight days. The trailhead from Jiri into Sagarmatha national park is referred to as the “classic route to Everest”, so Jiri is also called the gateway to Everest. The cultural and climatic diversity of Jiri is another attraction for visitors.
Shuklaphanta Wildlife Reserve
Shuklaphanta wildlife reserve is protected area in the Terai of the far-western development region, conserving grasslands, forest, riverbeds tropical wetlands and endangered flora and fauna.
The major attractions of this wildlife reserve are Bengal tiger, Deer, one horned rhinoceros, Indian leopard, Bengal floricans etc.
