See Magnificent Herds of Elephants in Tarangire
Being one of Tanzania’s most renowned sites for elephant viewing and unforgettable game drive experiences, Tarangire National Park is the first destination that you’ll be exploring on this combined 11-day tour.
During the full-day game drive, you may be able to see a wide variety of animal and bird species, including 4 of the Big 5 (besides rhinos). Established in 1970, Tarangire is known for its wildlife density, breathtaking natural landscapes, and rich biodiversity and is often paired with other national parks like Serengeti and Lake Manyara.
Additionally, Tarangire is also said to be a paradise for bird lovers, as it is said to have an estimated 500 bird species. The Tarangire River and Silale Swamp are also vital resources for many animals/birds, as they provide essential food and water.
With its diverse landscapes, large elephant herds, and abundant wildlife, Tarangire is a great destination to begin your Tanzania and Kenya Tour.
Discover the Mesmerising Ngorongoro Crater Floor
The next destination that you’ll be visiting is the Ngorongoro Crater Floor, located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The conservation site consists of a volcanic region that comprises Lake Magadi, Ngorongoro Crater (also known as a caldera), Olduvai Gorge (an ancient archaeological site), and many other prominent locations.
Teeming with the Big 5 along with other animals like hippos, hyenas, zebras, wildebeest, and spotted hyenas, Ngorongoro Crater has easily become one of Africa’s most visited attractions in recent years.
One can also spot predators like lions, spotted hyenas, and cheetahs and is said to even have black rhinos, although sightings are never guaranteed, as these species are rarely found in most places of East Africa.
Additionally, Lake Magadi, one of the crater floor’s popular attractions, is an unmissable spot for bird enthusiasts, as it is home to a high concentration of pink flamingos (namely the greater and lesser species) and may be seen in the lake during the dry season.
Witness the Untamed Beauty of the Serengeti
Established in 1951, the Serengeti National Park is surely every wildlife photographer’s dream destination. Derived from the Masai word “sirignet” which translates to “endless plains” which is actually a pretty fitting name, as the park consists of many vast and open grasslands.
What makes this national park stand out from the rest is that it has both the Big 5 and 9, with frequent sightings of other animals like the impalas, grants gazelles, topi, common eland, and warthogs.
Additionally, the park is said to also house an estimated 500 species of birds, making it an ideal destination for bird enthusiasts, where a few of the common ones include the martial eagle, lilac-breasted roller, African fish eagle, and grey-crowned crane.
Serengeti is especially said to come alive during the dry season (June-October), as millions of wildebeests and zebras migrate from here to the Masai Mara Reserve in search of food, shelter, and water, and it is said to be one of the peak times to visit this destination.
Spot the Big 5 in Maasai Mara National Reserve
Located in the southwestern region of the nation, the Mara is known for its incredible wildlife, sweeping savannah fields, the Big 5 and 9, and the Maasai Mara tribe.
The Mara also offers visitors a look into Africa’s untamed natural beauty, as it features many varied ecosystems ranging from savannah grasslands, riverine forests, acacia woodlands, and seasonal swamps.
Additionally, this reserve is said to come the most alive during the dry season (June to October) as millions of wildebeest, zebras, and gazelles migrate within the Serengeti-Mara ecosystems in search of fresh food and water.
Also called the greatest wildlife migration on earth, these months definitely paint the reserve in a whole different atmosphere and are also one of the peak seasons that many wildlife experts recommend to visit this mesmerising attraction!
Experience the Tranquil Beauty of Lake Naivasha
This tour also consists of taking you to Lake Naivasha, a freshwater lake located within the Great Rift Valley, which is fed primarily by the Malewa and Gigil rivers. To get the best experience, you’ll cross the lake in a boat that will take you all the way to Crescent Island.
During the journey, you may get to see pods of hippos taking a dip and may even spot a wide variety of birds like African fish eagles, kingfishers, herons, and cormorants.
Go on a Nature Walk in Crescent Island
After the boat ride, you’ll make your way to Crescent Island, known for its immersive walking safaris. Inhabited majorly by wild herbivore animals like hippos, impalas, giraffes, and waterbucks. This destination offers visitors a unique and one of a kind experience, as one can encounter much wildlife from a close by distance.
Near the entrance, there’s also an ostrich feeding area, where you’ll see many breeds of bird species and can even feed them at an additional charge. If lucky, you might even spot groups of animals like hippos, zebras, and impalas all in a single location, providing you with unreal nature walk experiences.
Come Face to Face With Adorable Giraffes at the Giraffe Center
For a memorable experience, you’ll also visit the Giraffe Center, which was established to protect the endangered Rothschild’s giraffes, which were decreasing in Kenya due to habitat loss in the past.
During your time here, you can even feed the giraffes here (at an additional cost) and interact with them, as they are said to be very friendly in nature. Additionally, the center is also said to provide information regarding the conservation of these animals.
The giraffes here look absolutely beautiful with their long necks, dark eyes, and slim bodies, and on top of this, they are said to be super friendly and often nudge visitors for attention! Just don’t forget to carry your camera/phone this day, as you do not want to miss out on getting those super cinematic up close shots of these wild animals.
Step Back in Time at Karen Blixen’s Museum
Lastly, on this tour, you’ll stop by the Karen Blixen Museum, which is named after Karen Blixen, author of the famous book “Out of Africa”. The book expresses her love for Africa and its people and culture, as she spent a significant portion of her life in Kenya.
Due to its huge popularity, the book was later adapted into a movie that won seven Academy Awards in the year 1986.
Being a perfect destination for history enthusiasts, the museum will provide you with insights into Blixen’s time in Kenya. You’ll get to explore rooms containing furnishings, artifacts, and photos from her time in the country.
