Being the largest city in the country, Zurich also functions as the economic and cultural hub of Switzerland and is divided into 12 administrative districts. Likewise, Zurich is one of those cities that cherishes and promotes cultural diversity, where this flourishing city hosts a variety of international events yearly that focus on promoting the cultural richness brought in by Italian, Portuguese, and German communities living in this city for centuries. Jungfraujoch- Top of Europe

Jungfraujoch, also known as the Top of Europe, is a glacier saddle/ridge (a low point of an area formed by erosion of glaciers) that connects two famous mountains of the Bernese Alps, Jungfraujoch and Monch. Before 1912, the Jungfraujoch was a totally isolated area, as it was located at an elevation of 3454 meters from sea level and in the past consisted of only snow and ice. But when Adolf Guyer-Zeller, one of Switzerland’s most famous businessmen, came up with a brilliant idea to build a railway line from Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfrau, many people didn't believe in this idea of his, but he still pushed through, believing in his vision. Finally, the construction of the railway line began and took 16 years to complete, and finally, on August 1, 1912, it was opened to the public. Now, Jungfraujoch is one of Switzerland's most popular attractions and is visited by huge numbers of people each year.

Additionally, Jungfraujoch is also called the “Top of Europe” due to it having the famous Jungfraujoch railway, which is the highest railway in Europe and located at an elevation of 3454 meters from sea level. Furthermore, travelers here are able to see views as far as the Vosges (mountain ranges) in France and even the Black Forest in Germany from the Sphinx Observatory in Jungfraujoch! To get the best experience of traveling all the way to the top of Europe, you will be going on a discovery tour consisting of one and a half hours, where you will explore all these remarkable destinations:

Here, you can see the beauty of Jungfrau up close and personal through the projectors set up in the room and also gather information regarding Mount Jungfrau and its nearby mountain ranges and glaciers.
  • Sphinx Observatory: Next, you will be visiting the Sphinx Observatory, also known as the “crowning glory” of Jungfraujoch. This is a viewing point from where you will be able to see Aletsch Glacier (a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site) and see mountain ranges as far as the Vosges in France and Germany’s Black Forest. Moreover, there is also a dome located here for astronomical research as well. Being this high up from the ground will definitely add a moment of surrealness to your day, so make sure to take plenty of photos/videos to capture these incredible memories!

Though this area is majorly covered in snow during the winter season, a few of the most popular activities that tourists here enjoy include skiing, snow tubing, skating, and going on glacier tours, which are all fantastic ways to explore this snow-covered area. Additionally, during summertime, as the snow starts to slowly melt, many individuals also go hiking and trekking around this region as well.

Money and Currency Tips

When traveling from Nepal to Switzerland it's essential to consider currency exchange and money management tips to ensure a smooth and efficient trip. When traveling to Switzerland, it is advisable to bring some Swiss currency to ensure readiness for initial expenses and unforeseen circumstances. We advise you to carry a minimum of CHF 1000 (Maximum CHF 2200) in cash, as this amount can cover expenses such as meals, additional places, and shopping, depending upon your travel needs. Additionally, due to multiple layovers that occur during your flight to Switzerland, we also recommend you carry around 100 USD for emergency needs during your transit hours in airports. As having cash on hand is beneficial, especially for small purchases, taxis, and markets, this payment method is common. By preparing adequately with cash and understanding local currency practices, you can enhance the experience and facilitate smooth transactions throughout your stay in Switzerland.

Best Time to Visit Switzerland

The best time to visit Switzerland is during the spring season that begins from March to May, as the temperatures during these months stay cool and moderate with low levels of humidity and heat felt in the air. Additionally, many cities and towns of Switzerland come alive with life, where you can feel the cool, crisp air fill your lungs, see flowers blooming into a multitude of colors, and witness trees starting to get their natural colors back! During this season you can explore popular destinations like Lucerne, Interlaken, Geneva, and Zurich, where you can go on city tours and visit historic museums, take a walk around serene parks/lakeside promenades, explore old street markets, or even participate in numerous adventurous activities such as going on nature walks, hiking, or trekking, where you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of Switzerland’s tranquil mountains and picturesque valleys. On top of this, some major festivals that take place during spring include the Tulip Festival, Sechseläuten, the Lucerne Spring Festival, and Cheese Day.
