Comprising an area of 3345 square kilometers, this ancient city was believed to be founded over a thousand years ago! In the past, this city was also known as “Thang Long,” which, when translated to English, means “The Rising Dragon,” as in Vietnamese culture this mythical creature symbolizes strength, resilience, and prosperity and was given this nickname to replicate the creature’s characteristics into the city. Additionally, this bustling metropolis also functioned as the capital of Vietnam from 1976 and served as a trading post for many years, i.e., from the 15th to the 19th century.

The Old Quarter has to be Hoi An’s most famous neighborhood, as it offers a wide collection of bustling markets, hole-in-the-wall restaurants, and serene parks, giving any traveler a range of options to explore! Additionally, some of the must-visit locations here include the Ancient House, Japanese Bridge, Hoi An Market, and Rehahn Gallery, which have helped capture the everlasting beauty and traditions of this vibrant city. In terms of food cuisines, the foods available in this nation are truly versatile, as they are influenced by neighboring countries such as China, Laos, and Cambodia, leading to the formation of many delectable food options that you can try as well, such as banh mi (stuffed sandwiches), cao lau (rice noodles served with fried pork), banh bao banh vae (shrimp dumplings), and com ga hoi an (rice served with shredded chicken).
